Pierce County sheriff's K-9 'Diego' dies just days after retiring due to cancer diagnosis

TACOMA -- The Pierce County sheriff's K-9 "Diego" died Monday morning after finishing an incredible career with the law enforcement agency.

"We are heartbroken to report K-9 Diego passed away this morning," the department said in a statement Monday. "We truly appreciate your support for Diego, his handler and their family."

For 7 years, the black Labrador sniffed for danger on our buses, planes, and stadiums. But now he's retiring after being diagnosed with terminal and untreatable cancer inside of his heart.  Citizens who would like to support Diego and the K9 program can donate to their GoFundMe Campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/K9Diego
