Mayor Murray publicly thanks Seattle police after Delridge apartment fire

SEATTLE – Mayor Ed Murray publicly thanked members of the Seattle Police Department and first responders Wednesday for their heroic efforts after a massive fire at a Seattle House Authority apartment complex.

Murray said at least 44 adults and children were displaced from the fire at the Lam Bow apartments, but no reports of injuries in part to the quick responses by a SHA maintenance worker and a Seattle police officer who happened to be in the area. Both men went door-to-door in the burning building and guided everyone to safety.

More than 100 firefighters joined by dozens of police officers responded to the blaze.

“Seattle police were first on the scene,” Murray said.  “These officers didn’t wait because they knew lives were at risk. These officers ran into the building to make sure everyone got out.”

The Red Cross sent volunteers to the site to work with residents on emergency housing and other needs.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
