Carroll says Wilson 'looks very good,' but status Sunday still up in the air

SEATTLE – Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reiterated that he expects quarterback Russell Wilson to play against the New York Jets next Sunday, but said the team will continue to evaluate Wilson’s sprained knee before making a final decision.

“Really early to say because I haven’t seen him do anything other than convince me (that he thinks he’s OK),” Carroll said during his press conference at the VMAC on Monday afternoon. “He’s done a very good job (of that) so far.”

Wilson suffered a sprained MCL during the third quarter of the Seahawks’ 38-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.  Carroll said he plans to have Wilson practice Wednesday, and said the injury is something “a lot of guys play with.”

“He’s remarkably well off for having a play like that,” Carroll said. “He looks very good. Very upbeat and positive about feeling like he’s going to be fine. It’s just all positive.”

Carroll said he determined immediately after the hit Sunday that he was going to pull Wilson out of the game, but that Wilson sneaked back onto the field for a few plays.

“He kinda just ran out on the field and so we let him have a couple plays there,” Carroll said. “We were careful with the plays. But I had no intention of leaving him in.

“Regardless of what the doctor said, after that he wouldn’t have gone back in. “
