One person diagnosed with TB at Seattle homeless shelter

SEATTLE – Health officials said one person at a Seattle homeless shelter has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Seattle & King County Public Health said the person is receiving treatment and is not at risk for infecting anybody else. Still, 65 more residents at the Downtown Emergency Service Center will be tested for TB.

TB is infections, but officials said it’s more difficult to spread than something like a cold or the flu.

Fifteen staff members at DESC will also be tested.

More than two million people die from TB every year.
