Seattle, expect traffic headaches from events this weekend

SEATTLE -- There's a lot of things to do this weekend in Seattle, but that also means a lot of traffic and some road closures. The Seattle Department of Transportation has put out advisories  from Thursday through Sunday (September 25).

Highlights: The Fremont Oktoberfest runs Friday through Sunday. The final Seattle Summer Parkways event will be in West Seattle on Sunday. The Seahawks play San Francisco at CenturyLink Field on Sunday afternoon. And finally: Montlake Bridge (SR 513) will be closed Saturday morning until Monday morning for maintenance.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25:

Bite of Broadview: A community event featuring food and entertainment including carnival rides, music, marketplace booths, a kids’ zone and a 5K fun run. At Christ the King Church at N 117th St and Phinney Ave N. Event hours are Friday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. About 500 people are expected to attend.

Fremont Oktoberfest: The three-day fall festival celebrating craft beers from the Pacific NW and beyond. On N Canal St and N 35th St between 1st Ave NW and Phinney Ave N. Event hours are Friday 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Street closures begin on Thursday at 6 a.m. About 15,500 people are expected to attend over three days.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24:

End AIDS Walk & Run: The 30th annual 5K walk/run at Volunteer Park in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The walk/run starts and finishes at Volunteer Park, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Route follows a loop through Capitol Hill, using 12th Ave E and streets around Volunteer Park and Lake View Cemetery. About 2,000 people are expected to attend.

Global March for Elephants & Rhinos: A march against the extinction of elephants, rhinos. and other endangered species. March starts at 11:15 a.m. from Seattle Center and heads south on sidewalks along 5th Avenue to Westlake Park. About 300 people are expected to attend.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25:

Seattle Summer Parkways - West Seattle: The final event of the Seattle Summer Parkways series will celebrate the end of summer by bringing safe streets to play on in West Seattle at Alki Beach! 11a.m. to 4 p.m. Route will use Alki Ave SW and Harbor Ave SW between Alki Beach Park Bathhouse and Don Armeni Park. Road closures begin at 9:30 a.m. Seattle Summer Parkways is coordinated with the Orca Half Marathon. About 3,000 people are expected to attend.

Orca Half Marathon: The race is along the shores of West Seattle from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Course will use streets, trails, and sidewalks in West Seattle between Don Armeni Park and Lincoln Park. The Orca Half Marathon is organized in conjunction with Seattle Summer Parkways – West Seattle. About 400 people are expected to attend.

Fremont Oktoberfest Alpine Climb 5K: The fun run starts and finishes at N 35th St and Phinney Ave N, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The route uses streets and trails in the Fremont and Wallingford neighborhoods. About 1,200 people are expected to attend.

Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers, 1:05 p.m. at CenturyLink Field. About 65,000 people are expected to attend. Go Hawks!
