A 9-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a car in a crosswalk.

Federal Way police said the boy, a third grader, was headed to Panther Lake Elementary School around 8:30 a.m. Thursday when he was struck by a car near 1st Ave S & S 344th S.

Police said the driver, a 28-year-old woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
