WSP adding extra patrols on dangerous two-mile stretch of I-5 in Tacoma

TACOMA -- The Washington State Patrol is adding extra troopers to watch over what they call a dangerous part of Interstate 5 in Tacoma.

Troopers say they are launching a two-day "high-visibility" enforcement effort along north and southbound I-5 between Portland Ave. E. and S. 56th Street.

According to statistics provided by WSP, the two-mile stretch of freeway has one of the highest crash rates in the area.

The extra patrols are on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 21 and 22.

Troopers are reminding drivers as always to remain vigilant when behind the wheel and watch for additional motorcycle troopers in the area for the next couple of days.
