7-month-old baby found dead after being left in parked car at NASA facility

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- A 7-month-old child has died after being left in a parked vehicle at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center on Redstone Arsenal, according to WHNT.

Fire and medical personnel arrived on the scene at 4:42 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call just moments earlier.  Officials are investigating the death.

Early reports indicate the parent, who works at the facility, intended to drop the child off at the child care center but went straight to work.

According to Jennifer Stanfield with the Marshall Space Flight Center, names are being withheld out of respect for the family and pending the appropriate notifications.

"This is a tragic situation for all of Team Redstone," said Col. Tom Holliday, Garrison Commander.  "We extend our deepest condolences to the family and offer them all of our resources during this most difficult time."
