One person seriously hurt in 6-car crash on I-5 in downtown Seattle

SEATTLE -- A six-car crash left one person seriously hurt and snarled traffic on northbound Interstate 5 Tuesday morning in downtown Seattle.

Details on the crash were not immediately clear, but firefighters said one person was pulled from their car and taken with life-threatening injuries to Harborview Medical Center.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, all lanes were blocked shortly after 9 a.m.  just south of Mercer Street.

Around 10 a.m., troopers said the collision had been cleared and all lanes were back open.

Transportation officials said to expect long delays and consider taking alternate routes such as SR 99, 4th Ave, 1st Ave and Airport Way. Even taking I-405 and heading north on the eastside could be a better option.
