SENTENCING UPDATE January 5, 2018--
Yancy Ray, 51, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Friday for the 2016 murder of Hyson Sabb.

Ray was convicted of second degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in November.

The Pierce County Prosecutors Office says Ray received life without parole because he is, by state statute, a persistent offender, which means he already has two prior convictions for violent offenses and this is his 'third strike.'

Witnesses say on September 3, 2016, Ray argued with Sabb and another person over a woman. Ray left, then returned a short time later and opened fire, killing Sabb.

FUGITIVE CAPTURED September 21, 2016 --
The FBI says Yancy Ray surrendered at the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and was booked into the Pierce County Jail on Wednesday.

FUGITIVE WANTED IN TACOMA September 16, 2016 --
Get in the middle of an argument with ‘Slim’ and you could end up dead. That's what happened to one man who Yancy Ray is accused of murdering in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood two weeks ago.

Officers say ‘Slim’ is his street name. He's considered ‘armed and dangerous’ and detectives think he could be hiding in Portland, Oregon.

"He was arguing with a female,” says Tacoma Police Ofc. Loretta Cool. “The victim stepped in and intervened and broke up the argument. Mr. Ray left the scene after threatening to kill the victim. He came back a short while later and shot and killed the victim."

This isn't the first person Ray’s killed. He was convicted of manslaughter in 1986 -- part of an extensive and violent criminal history in Washington and Oregon.

Yancy Ray is 50 years old, 6’2” and weighs 175 pounds.

He’s known to go by the fake last name, ‘Grayson.’
