Deputies investigating Spokane toddler's death as homicide

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Detectives in Spokane County are now investigating the death of a 2-year-old as a homicide.

The Spokane County sheriff's office says the girl died in a home Monday afternoon.

Detectives initially searched the home to help determine what led to the girl's death. They found several ounces of methamphetamine, some heroin and a handgun inside the home, prompting a second search warrant.

The sheriff's office says information from its investigation and its consultation with the Spokane County medical examiner's office led detectives to classify the death as a homicide.

The girl's three siblings have been place with state child protective services.
