Wild comeback gives Seahawks win over Dolphins in opener

SEATTLE – If the first game is anything like the rest of the games, the Seattle Seahawks are in for a fun, stressful season.

A haggard-looking Seahawks team survived an injury to quarterback Russell Wilson to beat the Miami Dolphins, 12-10, at CenturyLink Field in both teams’ season-opener Sunday.

It took a wild comeback in the final minutes, capped by a two-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Doug Baldwin with 31 seconds left.

"Same old Doug, just doing his thing," coach Pete Carroll said after the game. "Getting open at the crucial time."

Wilson spent some time on the trainer’s table after apparently injury his ankle following a sack from Ndamukong Suh during the third quarter.

Wilson was noticeably limping after the hit, and was soon examined on the bench of the sideline before heading to the training table.

There was no word on the extent of Wilson’s injury, though it visibly slowed him down for the rest of the game.

"We’re going to look at it," Carroll said. "He got in a really bad situation there ...

"It didn’t even  faze him. I mean, not even for an instant was he fazed about that."

Still, Wilson managed to lead the team's game-winning drive and finished with 258 yards on 27-for-43 passing.

“It’s a little sore but I’ll be alright,” Wilson said after the game.

“I keep telling the guys, I’ll play on one leg if I have to."

Baldwin had an exceptionally solid game, catching nine passes for 92 yards. Jermaine Kearse caught five balls of his own for 57 yards.

As expected, the Seahawks split the carries at running back. Christine Michael carried 15 times for 66 yards, while Thomas Rawls had 12 carries for 32 yards.

The first half wasn’t Seahawks football at its finest. Seattle committed six penalties for 49 yards, and dodged an enormous bullet early in the first quarter, when Kenny Stills dropped what would’ve been a long, sure-thing touchdown pass.

Baldwin and his shiny new contract looked strong out of the gate, however, as he caught all six balls thrown his way for 59 yards at halftime.

What was shaping up to be controversial pregame was anything but. The Seahawks’ linked arms during the national anthem in a shot of unity on 9/11.

The mayor of DuPont canceled a Seahawks rally last week in protest of the demonstration.
