Hood River County sheriff's deputy arrested for sex abuse

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a deputy with the Hood River County Sheriff's Office has been arrested for multiple off-duty crimes including sexual abuse.

The Hood River County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that deputy Marc Smith was arrested Friday and jailed on charges of luring a minor, third-degree sexual abuse, public indecency and private indecency.

Smith has been placed administrative leave and Oregon State Police are investigating.

Sheriff Matt English said in a statement he was notified Thursday of an alleged incident and immediately put Smith on leave.

The case has been referred to the Crook County District Attorney's Office.
