Hood River County sheriff’s deputy arrested for sex abuse

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a deputy with the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested for multiple off-duty crimes including sexual abuse.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputy Marc Smith was arrested Friday and jailed on charges of luring a minor, third-degree sexual abuse, public indecency and private indecency.

Smith has been placed administrative leave and Oregon State Police are investigating.

Sheriff Matt English said in a statement he was notified Thursday of an alleged incident and immediately put Smith on leave.

The case has been referred to the Crook County District Attorney’s Office.

No further information was immediately available.
