BREMERTON, Wash. — A driver who police said admitted to being on drugs lost control of his car and slammed into a bus stop, killing a woman and critically injuring a man seated there, police said Thursday.
Bremerton Police said officers were called to Auto Center Way, just north of Werner Road, at 11:49 a.m. Thursday to investigate the crash.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that a Nissan Sentra driven by a 23-year-old … man was traveling southbound when it lost control and drove onto the sidewalk striking the bus stop, where a man and woman were seated waiting for the bus,” police said in a news release.
Of the victims, a 63-year-old Bremerton man was taken to a Tacoma hospital in critical condition. A 31-year-old Bremerton woman was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where she later died, police said.
The driver — who was carrying an Idaho driver’s license but was living in Seabeck — was given field sobriety tests and “has admitted to using methamphetamine and marijuana,” police said, adding that he showed signs of impairment.
The driver was arrested and will be booked on vehicular homicide charges, police said.
