Voter Guide: Erin Jones, candidate for state superintendent of public instruction

SEATTLE -- This election season we want to provide you with a voter guide. We know the races and issues on the November ballot can be complex and most of us just don`t have the time to read the state booklet sent to you in the mail.

So we are here to help, with interviews and stories on all the big races, initiatives, and measures that will shape our future.

Today, we're going to focus on the race for superintendent of public instruction. This is the top educator in the state who works with the state's 295 school districts, making sure schools are assessing our students, meeting performance standards and are financially sound.

Erin Jones is a national award-winning teacher who has worked as a district and state education administrator. She's been an assistant schools superintendent for Washington state and now wants the top job.  She says fighting for full funding for public schools will be a top priority.

But now Jones has found herself in another battle, explaining comments she made about the LGBTQ community.
