Seahawks trim roster to 53 players in advance of regular season

SEATTLE --The Seattle Seahawks released multiple players  Saturday afternoon as part of a final move to pare the roster down to 53 players.

All NFL teams had to trim their rosters Saturday in advance of the regular season. The Seahawks' moves became public around 4 p.m.

Bob Condotta, sports reporter for the Seattle Times, tweeted a full list of roster moves.

A short time later, the team confirmed the moves. They also confirmed they executed trades with the Raiders and 49ers to acquire defensive backs Dewey McDonald and L.J. McCray.

Among those cut was Defensive Tackle Jordan Hill. Hill was a member of the 2014 Super Bowl champion Seahawks, and has previously started for the team.

Other surprising moves include the release of 3rd year cornerback Marcus Burley and fullback Will Tukuafu. Running back Troymaine Pope, who had a strong preseason, was also released.

Eight of Seattle's 10 draft picks made the team, as did seven undrafted rookie free agents.

Carroll said the cuts were some of the hardest parts about being a coach in the NFL.

"We've been living with these guys for a long time," Carroll said. "This is not the good part of it, this is the hard part of it."

Regular season practice begins Monday.
