Woman walking dog finds small homemade bomb on state park beach

BELFAIR -- Sheriff's deputies are investigating after a woman walking her dog found a small homemade bomb on a state park beach Thursday.

Around 8:13 a.m., the woman was walking her dog at the Belfair State Park when she came across a homemade "sparkler bomb," the Mason County Sheriff's Office said.

The person picked up the bomb, and took it to a state park worker, sheriff's deputies said. The park worker put the bomb under a trash can and held it in a maintenance yard near the intersection of State Route 300 and Beck Road.

Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad Officials called to the park x-rayed the bomb and determined it was a pop bottle wrapped in tape with a fuse sticking out.

Bomb squad officials destroyed the device.

No other bombs were found in the area.
