Jury finds Spokane lawyer not guilty of rape charge

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A jury has found a Spokane lawyer not guilty of rape and kidnapping charges.

The Spokesman-Review reports (http://bit.ly/2cppjLK ) that Bob Caruso was acquitted on Tuesday of sexually assaulting and kidnapping a 22-year-old woman.

Caruso was accused of offering to take the woman to a hospital after she was hurt in a car crash in 2014. The woman later claimed that Caruso took her to his home, gave her alcohol and pills and raped her.

A witness found the woman hiding in bushes wearing only underwear. The woman told police she had escaped Caruso's condo after he fell asleep.

Caruso's lawyer, David Partovi, had argued that the sex was consensual and that Caruso was a victim of "malicious prosecution."
