Police: Suspect hid in creek following home invasion, chase

AUBURN -- Two men are in police custody after allegedly running from police following a home invasion, with one of the men trying to hide in a creek to avoid arrest, police said.

Around 7:30 a.m., police received calls of a robbery and home invasion in the Seasons Apartments near the intersection of Highway 18 an SE 304th Place, Auburn Police Commander Steve Stocker said.

Police called to the scene spotted the suspects leaving the apartment, and tried to get their vehicle to pull over. Instead, the two men took off.

Auburn police chased the car and performed a successful PIT maneuver to bring it to a stop, Stocker said. The driver of the car was arrested, but the other suspect ran off on foot.

Police used a K9 unit to track the man to a creek, where he was attempting to hide.

Police and firefighters used a rope rescue to extract the suspect from the creek. He may have suffered hypothermia, police said, and he underwent a medical evaluation before his arrest.

Both men will likely be charged with robbery.
