Anacortes brush fire grows to 13 acres, multiple crews on scene

ANACORTES, Wash. -- The Department of Natural Resources is keeping an eye on a new brush fire that sparked overnight in Anacortes.

According to DNR, the Cranberry Lake Fire has burned about 13 acres in steep terrain, brush and timber.

One 20-man crew, one 8-man crew and two helicopters were on the scene.

Officials said the fire could require active management for several weeks. North Cranberry is closed to the public until further notice, and residents are encouraged to stay away from the fire area.

The Anacortes Police Department said: "Due to the size of the fire, it will take multiple days to fully contain the fire.  An investigation is underway in to the source of the fire. Any pertinent information should be shared with the Anacortes Police Department."
