Cops: Man who wanted cigarette assaulted three people with baseball bat

SEATTLE -- Police say they arrested a man who assaulted three people with a baseball bat Wednesday morning in downtown Seattle.

According to Seattle police, the suspect approached a 39-year-old man at Westlake Park around 10 a.m. and asked him for a cigarette. When the man didn't give him one, the suspect struck the victim in the arm.

The suspect then walked to 5th Ave. and Pine Street where police say he attacked a man and woman. The suspect dropped the bat and fled.

Bike officers found the suspect and arrested him about 7 minutes after the 911 call came in for the first assault. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for assault.

The couple, both 65, were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
