EASTPOINTE, Mich. — A 91-year-old man has shot and wounded another man who was apparently trying to rob him outside a Detroit-area store.

Eastpointe police say the apparent attacker was behaving in an erratic manner when he approached the 91-year-old man Monday morning.

Sgt. Martin Campbell tells The Detroit News that the elderly man repeatedly warned his wannabe attacker that he had a concealed pistol license “and even had the gun pointed at him … but the suspect kept coming and pointed an unknown object at the victim.”

The second man was shot in the neck. He has been hospitalized and is in police custody.

“This was an attempted robbery of the shooter,” Eastpointe Deputy Police Chief Eric Keiser told WXYZ. “The person who fired the shots had a CPL and was lawfully carrying a handgun and said that he defended himself when he was attacked.”

The suspect, described only as a black male in his late 20s or early 30s, was expected to be in court on Tuesday.
