Rescue crews find body after car crashes into Newcastle retention pond



NEWCASTLE -- A man was found dead in a car that careened off the road and crashed into a retaining pond Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to a report of a car in a pond around 9 a.m. near 150th SE and 80th Street. They dove in and removed the body of a 57-year-old man from the car. No additional victims were immediately found.

Officials said the car fell down a 30-foot drop into the water. It was upside down when rescue crews arrived.

The victim's name was not immediately released.  It was not known if the man was conscious when the  car crashed into the water.

Workers pulled the car from the pond around 10 a.m.

The King County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
