Woman gets 13 years for shooting man in face at Kent Starbucks

SEATTLE (AP) — A woman has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for shooting a man in a Seattle-area Starbucks because she believed he had previously sexually assaulted her.

Seattlepi.com reports that 26-year-old Fermina Bertos on Friday was sentenced for first-degree assault in connection to the July 2014 shooting. She was initially charged with first-degree murder, but accepted a lesser charge as part of a plea agreement.

According to court documents Bertos and Dennis had a sexual encounter that Bertos claims was rape. Madrigal says it was consensual. He has not been charged for any kind of sexual assault.

The next day, Bertos met Madrigal at a Kent Starbucks and shot him in the face. He survived his injuries. Bertos turned herself over to police after the incident.
