Investigators: Drunk man hopped police impound lot fence, crashed stolen Humvee

CENTRALIA -- A man is behind bars after he allegedly hopped a police station fence while drunk, stole a Humvee, crashed it and was detained by a Good Samaritan.

According to the police, a 28-year-old unlawfully entered the Centralia Police Department compound Saturday night and stole a Humvee parked in the lot.

The man drove off, police said, and crashed into a light pole.  He got the vehicle started again and fled northbound on Interstate 5.

The vehicle stalled on the freeway near Milepost 85, and the suspect was detained by a witness.

No one was injured in the incident.

The man was arrested and booked into Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and DUI, police said. It was not immediately known if the man owned the Humvee prior to it arriving in the police station compound.

Q13 News is not releasing the man's name because he has not yet been charged with a crime.
