MUKILTEO, Wash. — Remains found underwater near the Mukilteo ferry dock last Friday have been identified as a Lynnwood man reported missing last August.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the county medical examiner matched the remains to 20-year-old Jose Sanchez Diaz. Cause and manner of death are still pending.

Divers recovered the remains on July 22, nearly one year after Sanchez Diaz was first reported missing.

His red 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse was discovered by divers under 50 feet of water about 100 feet from the end of the Mukilteo ferry loading dock on July 12.

The car has not yet been recovered.
