Recall petition filed against Snohomish mayor withdrawn

SNOHOMISH, Wash. (AP) — An effort to remove the Snohomish mayor from office over allegations that she engaged in wrongful conduct has been withdrawn.

The Daily Herald reports that Snohomish truck driver Bill Betten took the action due to resulting harassment his family has endured.

Betten filed the petition earlier this month to recall Snohomish Mayor Karen Guzak, who has served in the role for seven years.

Betten alleged Guzak violated the state's open public meetings law by requiring people to sign in and provide their personal information to participate in City Council meetings. It also says Guzak failed to create an open government committee as required by city law.

Guzak denies any wrongdoing. She also says she does not condone harassment and had no role in harassment that may have occurred.
