Plastic bag ban? Tacoma considers 'Bring your own bag' ordinance

TACOMA - The Tacoma City Council is considering a plastic bag ban at stores and businesses.

Under the “Bring your own bag” proposal, only recycled paper or reusable bags would be allowed, but they would cost customers at least five cents.

Supporters say the measure reduces litter and waste in the landfill. It also encourages shoppers to bring reusable bags.

Earlier this year, opponents expressed concerns the proposal would be an added cost to small businesses.

Other cities have similar plastic bag bans.

The city council will discuss the measure at a meeting Tuesday at 5pm.
