No injuries reported in Amtrak train derailment in Tukwila

TUKWILA  -  An investigation is underway into what caused an Amtrak train to derail in Tukwila, in an incident with no apparent injuries to the 236 passengers on board.

The derailment happened near I-405 and S.W. Grady Way near the Family Fun Center and just a few hundred yards down the line from the Tukwila Amtrak Station.

Amtrak officials brought in buses to transport all the passengers to King Street Station in Seattle.

None of the train cars toppled over.  The derailment left the locomotive and all cars upright, likely the reason there were no reports of anyone getting hurt.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe says the derailment has stopped all rail traffic in both directions while crews assess what went wrong.  The blockage affects trains between Seattle and Portland.

A railroad spokesperson says around 14 to 16 trains will be held up, in both directions, while they take a look at the locomotive involved.
