Eugene unlikely to ban fireworks thanks to mild weather

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) _ Eugene officials say they don't expect a city-wide ban on fireworks this year.

The Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/28IYChb ) that mild, wet weather has reduced the fire risk. Police Chief Pete Kerns and Interim Fire Chief Joe Zaludek wrote in a memo to the City Council that no outright fireworks ban is proposed this year unlss there is a change in weather.

Zaludek wrote that the city could change its stance if things heat up and rapidly dry out.

Last year, the Eugene City Council banned the use of legal fireworks in south Eugene over the Fourth of July Holiday weekend. The council cited extreme heat and fire threat.
