Dennis Hastert to report to prison in Minnesota this week

CHICAGO (AP) — Dennis Hastert's attorney says the former U.S. House speaker will report to a federal prison in southeastern Minnesota this week to begin serving a 15-month sentence in his hush-money case that revealed he was being accused of sexually abusing young boys as a teacher in Illinois.

Washington, D.C.,-based attorney Thomas Green confirmed Monday in an email that the Illinois Republican will report to the Rochester Federal Medical Center.

Hastert has a Wednesday afternoon deadline to report.

Federal Judge Thomas Durkin said at Hastert's April sentencing that the Rochester facility would be a good fit for the 74-year-old, including because it specializes in health care and is near Mayo Clinic. Hastert is diabetic and suffered a stroke last year.

The Rochester facility holds around 800 inmates from all security classifications.
