11-month-old girl pulled from pond after crawling off deck, in critical condition

HANSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — Officials say an 11-month-old girl found in a pond on her family's property was flown to a Seattle hospital in critical condition.

The Kitsap Sun reports (http://goo.gl/WPor7Y ) the girl was playing with her 2-year-old sister Monday on the deck of their home in Hansville, about 10 miles north of Kingston on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Kitsap County sheriff's deputy Scott Wilson says their mother was near the deck gardening when she noticed the infant, who can crawl, was not on the deck.

She says the 2-year-old indicated the baby was inside with a 6-year-old sister and 21-year-old brother. When the brother came out asking about the baby, the adults found the girl in a koi pond behind the house.

The mother, a nurse, began CPR and emergency personnel transported the girl to Seattle.
