Sounders FC advance in U.S. Open Play, shut out Kitsap Pumas

TUKWILA, Wash. - The Seattle Sounders shut out the Kitsap Pumas in their fourth-round U.S. Open Cup matchup at Starfire in Tukwila on Wednesday night.  Cristian Roldan scored his first professional goal and Joevin Jones scored late in the 2nd half as the Sounders beat Kitsap, 2-0.

The teams battled to a scoreless game in the first half, but the Sounders broke through in the 71st minute after Aaron Kovar's free kick took a deflection and found Roldan, who lofted his attempt over the goalkeeper and into the net to give Seattle the 1-0 lead. The score would hold until stoppage time, when Jones finished a breakaway to seal the Sounders ticket to the U.S. Open round of 16.   The Sounders will learn their opponent on Thursday.

Brian Schmetzer was filling in for head coach Sigi Schmid, who was serving a one-match suspension.
