TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Two men who say they were sexually abused by a youth wrestling coach are suing the Washington city of Puyallup.
The News Tribune reports that court documents say the men say Kenneth Scott Carroll molested them while they were on the junior wrestling team. The men are now in their early 20s but joined the wrestling team at 4 and 11 years old.
According to the lawsuit, the city and several sports groups were negligent when they allowed Carroll to coach with little supervision, failed to do a proper background check and let him take kids on unsupervised overnight trips.
Carroll, now 43, was sentenced to more than 18 years in prison in February for sexual abuse in Oregon.
U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Emily Langlie says the office hasn’t yet decided whether to file charges against Carroll.
