Tree blocks roadway after falling onto Seattle's Sand Point Way

A Seattle neighborhood is facing a big cleanup after a huge tree fell right onto busy Sand Point Way Northeast.

The tree suddenly uprooted and fell from the front of a home onto the road at Northeast 50th, near Seattle’s Children’s Hospital.

The tree blocked one lane of traffic and the sidewalk.

A man who lives nearby says there was no warning, just a "popping" noise, then a thunderous crash.

"I mean nothing crazy.  It just, all of the sudden it just snapped and fell over,” said Forrest Eastham.

He says he’s sad to see the tree go, because it provided shade to his house and it also provided a buffer, keeping traffic noise to a minimum in his residence.

Before it fell, Eastham says the tree was slightly leaning toward the street.  He also says the landlord had recently requested the city trim it, to clear it from power lines.
