Emergency repair work to create delays on EB I-90 near Cle Elum

CLE ELUM, Wash. -- It's bad news for a busy travel weekend.

WSDOT crews said Friday morning they needed to perform emergency road repair work along eastbound Interstate 90 near Cle Elum.

Transportation officials first tweeted about cracks along the shoulder of the freeway around 11 a.m.

"For the safety of drivers, the Washington State Department of Transportation is closing a lane eastbound between milepost 85 near Cle Elum to milepost 93 near Elk Heights. The eastbound shoulder is cracking in three areas along this four mile stretch of I-90 and needs to be repaired immediately.

Delays are expected to continue into the late evening. Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes via SR 10 or SR 970 to US 97."

Not only is it a holiday weekend with Memorial Day on Monday, thousands are also heading to the Gorge Amphitheater near Quincy for the Sasquatch Music Festival.
