Police: Teenager handling gun in home accidentally shoots himself, dies

SEATTLE -- A teenager accidentally shot himself while handling a gun and died in his West Seattle home Wednesday night, police said.

When officers went inside the home in the 6000 block of High Point Drive SW, they found a male in his late teens dead from a gunshot wound. Police say witnesses reported he was handling the gun, but weren't sure what he was doing with it.

There were other people in the house and in the room when the gun went off, police said, but officers would not say if the teenager's parents were home.

At this time, police said, they don't know where the gun came from or whether it belonged to someone in the house.

An investigation is continuing.
