Bonney Lake package theft suspects caught on surveillance

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. -- Thieves are stealing packages right off the front door steps, and one Bonney Lake man said it is happening at his house four times.

He says the problem is so bad in his community, he went out and bought a surveillance system.

People in the Bonney Lake community are frustrated. They said thieves have stolen mail and now packages. They fear the thieves are getting bolder, and the next step will be breaking into homes.

In the most recent case last week, surveillance cameras rolled as a suspect stole a package right off of Owen Langdon's doorstep in Bonney Lake last week.

"He risked being on camera to steal a $20 water bottle and a BBQ cover," said Langdon.

Detectives say both men in the car are theft suspects that they are trying to identify.

"What you could see on the video is them come in, scout the driveway, look around, see if they're noticed and then they drive away and come back a very short time later and they send somebody to run with the packages and take off," said Pierce County sheriff's detective Ed Troyer.

"So these are people who have done this before and they're experienced at it, and what we're finding out is that people who do this continually do this until they get caught," said Troyer.
