Federal Way residents pack City Council meeting to vent after 3 murders in 48 hours

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- After three separate murders in 48 hours, hundreds of residents packed a City Council meeting in Federal Way Thursday night to tell their leaders that the fear in the community is at a boiling point and something needs to be done now.

As police investigate three deadly shootings this week, they’ve asked residents not to roam the streets at night until the shooter or shooters are caught.

One man said he’s not afraid to arm himself. “I’m perfectly capable of handling a weapon safely. If I am packing in public and I see something going on, if your life is on the line or my life, I will defend (against) you."

One woman is listening to the police department’s request of staying in at night. She didn’t attend Thursday night's meeting because she feared for her safety walking there.

“We are just always looking over our shoulders and the last three days I’m jumpy. Whenever someone is behind me at the crosswalk I jump,” says Susan Brigham.

The police chief says investigators are working day and night to solve these cases.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest, and two residents came forward Thursday night, each donating $5000, bringing the total reward to $11,000. The Crime Stoppers number is 1-800-222-TIPS.
