Seattle police searching for man who tried to rape 72-year-old woman

SEATTLE -- Police are searching for the man responsible for the assault and attempted rape of a 72-year-old Seattle woman last weekend.

According to Seattle police, the woman had just returned to her home near E Denny Way & 17th Ave in Capitol Hill. She then saw the suspect standing in the front door. That's when police say the man knocked her to the ground and struck her several times. The victim elbowed the suspect in the face and he eventually left the home.

The woman called 9-1-1 and police searched the area but did not find the suspect.

Medics took the victim to Harborview Medical Center where she was treated for serious injuries.

The suspect was described as a black male, 40-50 years old, with a dark complexion and a heavy build. He was described as having a long face and a thin nose, and unkempt short hair. He was last seen wearing a red and black lightweight parka and jeans.
