Two Des Moines boys, 14 and 15, arrested in connection with shooting death of Kent man

DES MOINES, Wash. -- Two young teenage boys -- a 14-year-old and 15-year-old -- have been arrested in connection with the shooting death last week of a 41-year-old Kent man in the parking lot of a Des Moines apartment complex, police said Tuesday.

"A motive for the homicide has not been determined but detectives believe there was some sort of confrontation between the victim and the two suspects prior to the shooting" last Friday night, a Des Moines Police Department news release said.

The man was found bleeding from gunshots in the parking lot of the Shoreham Apartments in the 22800 block of 30th Avenue South.  He was rushed to the hospital, but he died of his injuries shortly after the shooting.

The two teenage boys were arrested in Des Moines Monday with the assistance of agents from the ATF, police said, adding that the firearm used in the murder has been recovered.

The gun had been stolen during a residential burglary and reported to the Des Moines Police Department, police said.

The news release said the victim, who has not yet been identified, did not have any connection to the Shoreham Apartments, where the shooting occurred, police said, and the two suspects were believed to have been there visiting friends.

Police said the 15-year-old Des Moines resident was booked into the King County juvenile detention center for investigation of second-degree murder, theft of firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and first-degree burglary. The 14-year-old, also of Des Moines, was booked for investigation of first-degree burglary and possession of a stolen firearm.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
