WATCH: This is what flight attendant training looks like

SEATTLE -- Seattle-based Alaska Airlines gets a LOT of applicants for their flight attendant positions. And we mean a lot: the last time 75 positions came open, more than 2,000 people applied! So you can understand that what we saw in the final few days of a five-and-a-half week training, were the best of the best.

We followed along as these amazing men and women completed an entire day of fire training; a "Pool Day" that included how to safely evacuate passengers in the event of a water landing; and a session on using the evacuation slides. Trainees were mostly those who were ramping up to their first-ever flight attendant position, but all of Alaska's flight attendants complete an annual one-day training to stay up to speed.

Alaska Airlines may be known for their customer service, but Andy Schneider,  vice president in-flight services, points out safety is still their the biggest focus. "I think people are surprised to learn that out of the 28 days of training, only 3 of those days are service related," she tells us.  "The rest all has to do with safety.”

Big thanks to Alaska Airlines for having us out, and congratulations to all of their newest flight attendants!
