Couple endures 15 miscarriages, 3 failed adoption attempts in effort to start family

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- A couple who have had 15 miscarriages say they have one more shot at having a baby.

Lindsay and Brian Vargas say each time Lindsay was pregnant she made it to week eight but at week nine the baby would have no heartbeat and her doctor couldn't tell her why.

"I just can't give up," Lindsay Vargas said. "I just can't."

Since they married in 2004, their wish to become parents has come with a decade of heartache.

"We have spent $150,000," Lindsay Vargas said. "I've had 15 miscarriages. We've had one ectopic pregnancy."

They say they've tried adoption three times but the money spent on fertility impacted their finances and left them with credit scores that were too low.

Two other adoption attempts fell through when the parents decided to keep their children.

Other attempts also fell through, including planned help by Lindsay's sister, Kelly, who has three children of her own and offered to be a surrogate.

But Kelly could not help because she had a tumor and had to have one of her ovaries removed.

The family is holding out hope that in vitro fertilization and embryo genetic testing will finally give them a baby.

The cost of that has them sharing their story for the first time in a decade. The couple says the support is pouring in and they are stronger than they have ever been.
