Man dies, teen girl survives after commercial raft flips over on Wenatchee River

WENATCHEE, Wash. -- A man in his 50s died and a teenage girl survived when a commercial raft they were in flipped over Wednesday on the Wenatchee River near Dryden, Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett said.

The raft flipped over at about 2 p.m., ejecting the man and girl into the river, Burnett said. The girl was able to climb back into the raft, but the man wasn't able to reach the raft, he said.

A safety kayaker accompanying the raft tried to assist the man to shore, Burnett said. Rescuers performed CPR on the man for more than 30 minutes, but were unable to revive him, he said.

The sheriff said both the man and the girl were wearing wetsuits and personal flotation devices at the time.
