High-speed chase ends with deadly shooting in Burien

BURIEN, Wash. -- A deputy shot and killed a man armed with an assault rifle following a high-speed chase overnight, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Crime scene tape and police cars blocked off a section of 21st Avenue SW near SW 146th Street Wednesday morning.

King County sheriff's deputies say the driver led them on a high-speed chase which came to an end just south of Seahurst Park. They say the driver opened the door of his pickup truck and pointed an rifle at deputies. That's when a deputy shot him several times.

The suspect died at the scene. Nobody else was hurt.

Authorities found the rifle inside that pickup truck and are now investigating what led up to the chase and the deputy's actions.

In the minutes before the deadly shooting, deputies say several people heard gunshots nearby. When investigators arrived they spotted the suspect driving off in the truck.

Investigators believe the man may have been involved in a domestic violence situation just before the shooting.
