Officers cleared in fatal shooting of southwest Idaho man

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) -- Authorities on Tuesday cleared two southwest Idaho law enforcement officers of any wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a Homedale man late last year.
Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue says an investigation shows that Homedale Police Department Officer Chris Steed and Owyhee County Sheriff's Deputy Terry McGrew acted within the bounds of their authority.

Donahue says Steed and McGrew on Dec. 26 responded to a house in Homedale where 38-year-old Gilbert Heredia refused commands to put down a handgun and fired a shot.

Donahue says Steed shot four times and McGrew five times.

Heredia was hit six times and was taken to a hospital where he died on Jan.1 after his family decided to take him off life support.
