City of Seattle counting number of bicyclists using its bike lanes (VIDEO)

SEATTLE -- The city of Seattle is keeping tabs on the number of bicyclists in town.

On Monday, the Seattle Transportation Department unveiled a new bike counter display along 2nd Avenue between Marion and Madison streets.

Magnetic detectors in the bike lane count bicyclists heading in both directions. Then the information is posted online.

So far, the city has placed a total of nine detectors around the city.
