Seahawks trade up (again), this time to pick Maryland DT Quinton Jefferson

SEATTLE – There’s a new trend in the Seattle Seahawks’ draft room: Trading up.

For the second time in the 2016 NFL draft, but only the fourth time in the John Schneider era, Seattle traded up on Saturday. This time, the Hawks acquired New England’s fifth-round pick and used it to select Maryland defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson.

Seattle traded its seventh-round pick this (No. 225 overall) and  next year’s fourth-rounder to New England in exchange for No. 147 overall  and the Patriots' seventh-rounder, which is No. 243 overall.

Jefferson racked up 107 tackles and 10.5 sacks in four seasons at Maryland.

Here’s what nfl.com has to say about him:

High cut 3-technique with good upper body strength but below average lower body power to take a stand. Jefferson flashes penetration ability and some pass rushing talent, but he needs to be fitted to a 1-gap, upfield defense and will have to make a team as a rotational lineman.
