Bremerton Police warn public about attempted lurings targeting young women

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Police are on the hunt for a man they believe tried luring two young women and a 15-year-old girl in the past three weeks.

Detectives think the suspect has been driving around in a white, full-bodied pickup truck. Victims told police they caught the man touching himself and making obscene comments. Detectives are concerned his antics could escalate.

Monica from Miss Monica’s Barber Boutique said she’s worried the suspect last struck right near her storefront.

“Sometimes I’m afraid because I have to park in the back of the building,” she said.

Her co-worker, De’ja Boyd, is concerned, too.

“Once I lock up, I go straight to my car,” said Boyd, “Because I don’t know anybody here, I just moved up here.”

It first started on March 30 around 8 p.m. along Kitsap Way and Oyster Bay when a 19-year-old girl told police a man pulled his truck over and offered her a ride. She refused and got away, but noticed his pants were pulled down, police said.

Then police said it happened again on April 5. Detectives said the same man approached a 15-year-old girl on Callow Avenue. Cops said he asked the girl directions but she ignored him and ran to a friend’s house.

And then in a third report in the same area on April 17, police think the same man asked a 23-year-old woman if she wanted a ride. She, too, refused.

Cops believe their suspect is a white man in his late 20s or 30s, believed to be about 6-foot. He was described as having a solid build, weighing about 200 pounds.

The suspect was seen wearing a short military-style haircut with blonde or strawberry blond hair. One victim told detectives the man might have tattoos on both arms.

Police are telling everyone to be on the lookout.

“Just be alert to anyone that you may feel might be following you,” said Bremerton Police detective Beau Ayers.

Boyd said that is exactly what she plans to do to avoid becoming a victim herself.

“That’s crazy because I mean, I’m right in the age range,” she said.

Police advise citizens to call 911 immediately if they experience something similar.
